With its streets full of life and colour, Naples is perfect for those who love to shop. From the narrow alleys of the historic centre to the wider streets of the more modern neighbourhoods, you’ll come across a myriad of shops offering a vast selection of products for every taste and need.

From traditional antique markets to high fashion boutiques, you can find anything you want. So, let’s explore the shopping streets of Naples, with the aroma of pizza and salt in the air, and the magic of its shops, where art, fashion and tradition blend in a unique and irresistible mix.

Via Toledo: shopping in a place steeped in history

It stretches for about a kilometre and connects Piazza Tieste e Trento with Piazza Dante. The pedestrianised Via Toledo is one of Naples’ main thoroughfares and offers you the thrill of shopping among monumental sites, thanks to its proximity to Piazza del Plebiscito, the Royal Palace and the Galleria Umberto I.

Walking along it, you can admire the shop windows of the chain stores in total tranquillity, from the colourful Disney Store to the sexy Victoria’s Secret, passing by the brands Foot Locker, H&M, Bershka and Alcott. There is no shortage of historic artisan chocolate shops, such as Gay Odin, or ice cream parlours, such as Casa Infante.

The Chiaia neighbourhood and Via dei Mille: luxury shopping

If you’re looking for haute couture, don’t miss out on a visit to Via Chiaia, one of the most elegant neighbourhoods in Naples. It’s mainly in Via dei Mille that you’ll find boutiques selling luxury clothing and accessories by top Italian and international designers such as Bulgari, Cartier, Luis Vitton and Gucci.

Equally impressive are the Neapolitan craft shops, such as the historic Eugenio Marinella, which has been selling ties famous all over the world since 1914, or Tramontano, a place not to be missed by lovers of handmade leather bags.

Via Scarlatti and Via Giordano: shopping in the heart of Vomero

In the upper part of Naples, in the centre of Vomero, you can walk along the pedestrianised Via Scarlatti and lose yourself among the numerous clothing, shoe, accessory and cosmetics shops, from the Zara and Benetton chains to Coin and Piazza Italia, from Foot Locker to Cisalfa, from Tezenis to Intimissimi, Kiko to Sephora.

If you love reading, pop into via Giordano and stop at the huge Mondadori bookshop set out over two floors. Also take a look at the stalls opposite Lama Optical, for some hard-to-find texts. But above all, stop in the little shops on the side streets.

Corso Umberto I: shopping on the Rettifilo

This street connects the Central Station in Piazza Garibaldi to Piazza Bovio, and is perfect if you’re a fan of quick and cheap shopping.

Along Corso Umberto I, also known as Rettifilo, (straight road) you’ll find a few international brands and many shops for all budgets, from the Stradivarius, Yamamay and Benetton chain stores, to shops of local companies, well-stocked and really affordable.
