The Venice entrance ticket system has been introduced to regulate the flow of tourists during days when the risk of overcrowding is highest. The ticket applies to all individuals over the age of 14 arriving in the city by any means of transport and is only mandatory for day visitors.

Compared to 2024, the number of days on which the entrance ticket is required has increased to 54 in 2025. These are the dates in detail:

• April: 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31;
• May: 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 16, 17, 18 and 23, 24, 25 and 30, 31;
• June: 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 and 13, 14, 15 and 20, 21, 22 and 27, 28, 29;
• July: 4, 5, 6 and 11, 12, 13 and 18, 19, 20 and 25, 26, 27.

These measures aim to manage visitor numbers more effectively and preserve the unique experience that Venice offers, while also limiting the negative effects of mass tourism on the city and its cultural heritage.

Costs and payment methods

While the entrance fee was set at €5 in 2024, the price for 2025 is €10, as already discussed in July. Payment must be made online via the official website of the city; once the required fee has been paid, a QR code will be issued, which must be shown to the relevant authorities if requested.

The QR-code vouchers are issued in the name of the individual but can be booked collectively for families or small groups, making the process easier for visitors. Staff responsible for checks will be clearly identifiable by a bib or an official ID badge, ensuring transparency and safety during inspections.

Penalties

Anyone entering the city without an entrance ticket will be required to pay the ticket fee, along with an additional fine ranging from €50 to €300.

Venice entrance fee: who is exempt?

There are several categories of people who are exempt from paying the entrance fee to access Venice. These include:

• workers, including commuters;
• tourists staying overnight in the city;
• public administrators and public authorities;

• those who pay IMU (property tax) in the Municipality of Venice and members of their household;
• students of all school levels, including university and postgraduate students, based in the historic city or the smaller islands of the lagoon.

Do residents of the Veneto region have to pay the Venice entrance fee?

The answer is no. Anyone residing in the Veneto region, as well as their visiting relatives and acquaintances, is not required to pay the contribution.
