OUR STORY
Once upon a time there was a young British gardener named John Taylor who decided to try his luck in the French Riviera, a combination of fatality tied him forever to the history of French-British friendly relations and the development of luxury tourism. Lord Brougham discovered the charm and attractiveness of Cannes in 1834 when he began to seduce the rich English aristocracy who wanted to buy these beautiful homes. However, the lack of professionals acting as intermediaries only slowed prosperity. John Taylor was approached by Lord Woolfield and began to attend high society, and quickly established himself as the benchmark of the prestige real estate industry. He opened his first real estate agency in 1864, at the age of 30. His outstanding reputation and enormous success led him to be appointed Deputy British Consul at Cannes, then a member of the Royal Order of Queen Victoria, before becoming Sir John Taylor in 1884. Two years later, his son Walter joined the prestigious father. Jack, Walter’s son took part in this great adventure.
John Taylor has managed an outstanding portfolio for the nobility and the political class, among others the Prince of Wales, King Edward VII, the French royal family, Lord Brougham and William Gladstone. The company continued its expansion by conquering Nice, Monaco, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Saint-Tropez and Cannes. After World War II, Jack’s daughter and her husband, Jacqueline and George Montagu, took over the company, attracting high society members and celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Gregory Peck, Henry Fonda, and others.
AN INTERNATIONAL DIMENSION.
During the 1990s, Michel Pastor acquired John Taylor. The John Taylor Group became one of the leading international operators in the luxury real estate sector. A strong presence allowed him to open more than 30 agencies in the world. In 2002, when the auction market became very competitive, the entrepreneur Nicolas Orlowski bought back Artcurial and quickly made it the first French auction house and created a partnership with John Taylor.
