Modica: In “Sorda” district, the new residential area of Modica city, in a very central position, typical stone villa date back to the early 1800's, inserted in a beautiful garden of 3.920 square meters. You access to the property from an ancient wooden door and you enter into a large courtyard (“bagghiu” in Sicilian dialect) in flagstones, overlooking the private chapel, stables, the stone rooms with vaulted ceilings and the old houses of service personnel.
The total area of the villa is about 840 sqm, 420 sqm distributed on the ground floor and 420 sqm on the 1st floor, more terraces and balconies. The villa is paved in natural limestone paving and is flange by the typical dry-stone walls that define also the home and all the garden.
The old original tile floor still adorns many rooms, made with materials typical of 1800 such as stone, pitch and ancient ceramics. The entire ground floor, with the "dammusi", stables, cellars, stone rings that are on the walls of the courtyard, bears witness to a fascinating past, made of carriages and horses.
The olive trees, almond trees, lemon and oranges trees, they say we are in Sicily; while the nineteenth century garden, with its paths, stone seats, the stone garden fountains with fish, remind us of walks and stops in search of coolness on hot summer days.
Structurally, the villa is in good condition, but needs renovation works internally. Ref. 734
