Puria is a small village of ancient origin, belonging to the parish of Valsolda. In ancient times, Puria was walled in and was a crossroads for roads and mule tracks coming from Castello, Bré, the upper Lugano area, the Sanagra, Cavargna, Colla and Rezzo valleys (via the Passo Stretto).
Puria was the site of the discovery of the so-called "Tesoretto dell'Imperatore Maurizio", consisting of a series of Byzantine coins dating back to the end of the 6th century.
During the Spanish domination, the municipality, like all the others in the valley, had limited powers, since the practical requirements of communal life meant that most public functions were managed in common by the general council of Valsolda. During the Napoleonic era, in 1805, the municipality of Puria with its 188 inhabitants was suppressed and aggregated with the neighbouring municipality of Albogasio, regaining its autonomy in 1816, following the establishment of the Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto.
In 1853 it had 237 inhabitants, and at the unification of Italy in 1861 Puria had 240. The municipality of Puria with its 302 residents was abolished in 1927, and merged with the municipalities of Albogasio, Castello Valsolda, Cressogno, Dasio and Drano, forming the new municipality of Valsolda.
The painters Domenico Pezzi and Pellegrino Tibaldi were born here.
