It is located on the Piedmontese shore of Lake Maggiore at the mouth of the Tiasca stream. In Roman times, the Via Severiana Augusta passed through Meina, a Roman consular road that connected Mediolanum (modern Milan) with Verbannus Lacus (Lake Verbano, or Lake Maggiore, and from here to the Sempione pass (Lat.
