The former Stella Ceramics Factory, owned by the owner of the same name who started the production of ceramics in the factory, is located within a small rural settlement in the hamlet of Sant'Antonio.
The current state of the property is reached towards the end of twentieth century, when various sheds for the storage of materials were built both inside the courtyard and at the back towards the fields.
HISTORY NOTES
In the mid-nineteenth century Michele Stella, one of the most representative figures of industrial development and a highly skilled ceramist, felt the need to expand its production.
Already the owner of a factory where porcelain and majolica were produced, he therefore decided to purchase the factory in the Canton of Perotti.
The Stella brothers' factory was specialized in the production of salted stoneware or vitrified stoneware; they used the clays extracted in the Traverso and Spineto regions mixed with siliceous sands and pebbles from the Orco torrent.
CURRENT SITUATION
Today the building appears as a complex of buildings arranged in a courtyard, divided into two blocks:
Block A: including the body of the factory and the annexed accessory parts (with access to the courtyard);
Block B: including a residential unit (with access to the courtyard).
Block A includes all the production and ancillary rooms of the plant; it is largely arranged on three floors above ground, but the cooking area stands out over the complex. The latter, in fact, includes two continuous vertical circular ovens for four floors above ground, the last of which is an attic floor, in which the ovens are connected via a flue in a single chimney.
The building interventions permitted by PRGC, identified as direct interventions, include: ordinary and extraordinary maintenance, restoration, conservative rehabilitation, building renovation, change of intended use, appurtenant integration, hygienic-functional expansion, residential recovery of attics, cottages and ancillary rooms.
