LESA
Lesa (also in Piedmontese and Lombard) is a town of 2,402 inhabitants in the province of Novara. It is the northernmost of the municipalities in the province that arise on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Alessandro Manzoni loved to stay in Lesa in the villa of his second wife Teresa Borri, widow of Stampa. During these stays he frequented the blessed and philosopher Antonio Rosmini who lived in Stresa. Solcio is a hamlet that rises on the lake shore, between Meina and Lesa: its parish Church of San Rocco is interesting, built in neoclassical style by the local philanthropist Felice Borroni in the first half of the 19th century to a project by the entrepreneur Bartolomeo Franzosini (1768 - 1853), with frescoes in the pendentives of the dome (the four Evangelists) by Gerolamo Induno. Also in Solcio di Lesa, in the Villa Cavallini, a fresco by Luigi Morgari (1924) representing dancing girls in a landscape scene of this same locality. The Milanese painter Siro Penagini also lived and studied in Solcio, who died in Solcio in 1952 and is buried here.
