Description of the village
Castrignano del Capo is the municipality which includes the marina of Santa Maria di Leuca, a holiday paradise in Salento. Located about 4 km from Leuca, the town still retains the heart of the medieval village. In fact, the Borgo Terra di Castrignano is one of the most visited sites and an unmissable destination during holidays in Salento.
Santa Maria di Leuca Caves
The town has about 5000 inhabitants and its territory also includes Santa Maria di Leuca and the two small villages of Giuliano di Lecce and Salignano. The fulcrum of the town is the beautiful Piazza di San Michele where the statue of St. Michael the Archangel stands in the center and where the mother church dedicated to the patron saint overlooks. It is a very welcoming place and a particularly pleasant place to have an aperitif since there are several bars with outdoor tables. All around are beautiful old and renovated buildings, often transformed into comfortable B&Bs, craft shops, hairdressers, agencies and other commercial activities.
A few meters away is Piazza S. Giovanni with the statue on another column. Here, too, nice bars with outdoor tables where you can taste Salento appetizers.
