Pella is an Italian town in the province of Novara, located on the western shores of Lake Orta, in Piedmont. Piedmontese municipality located on a small peninsula that arises on the western shores of Lake Orta - opposite the island of San Giulio - and dominated behind it by steep granite hills on which stands the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso. In the medieval documents of 1039 the municipality of Pella already assumed its current name. Scholars associate the name of Pella with the pre-Latin base "Pella", in the meaning of 'rock', a variant of shovel even if a variant of the ethnic name "Pellus" cannot be excluded.
