Luxurious country houses in the Upper Tiber Valley, I found my little corner of paradise at Ferraguzzo_ one of our regular clients.
The luxurious country houses, is in an ideal position close to the historic cities of Arezzo, Siena, Florence, Assisi , Perugia and Gubbio to name but a few. Nestled in a valley where rural life is still very much alive. Here life is peppered with the views of ancient churches and surrounded by terra cotta in the house one is reminded of the ancient road which leads from the sanctuary of Petriolo to heart of green Umbria.
The name Ferraguzzo comes from medieval times when pilgrims and travelers would stop at the house to eat and rest and have their horses shod.
In the midst of the Upper Tiber Valley , Ferraguzzo is situated between two of the most beautiful medieval towns in Italy, Anghiari and Citerna , it is also a few minutes from Sansepolcro , the town of Piero della Francesca, Monterchi has the Pregnant Madonna, Caprese Michelangelo is the birthplace of the great artist and the Monastery of La Verna where St Francis spent many days in contemplation.
At 400 metres above sea level , Ferraguzzo is on a small hill that overlooks the valley of the river Sovara which is a nature reserve and designated as a No Kill fishing river. For those who love sport in a natural environment, the nature reserves of Monte Rognosi and the Lake of Montedoglio are both close by. Both these natural parks are ideal for horse riding, walking, mountain biking, bird watching and numerous other outdoor activities.

The house originates from 1650 when Ferraguzzo was a refuge for travelers from all over the place. Here they found a place to rest their tired limbs and spirits from a long journey. Nowadays at Ferraguzzo we have the same spirit in welcoming our guests adding comfort and the necessary luxury to make your stay in the heart of Tuscany unforgettable.
The estate belonged to the Plazzeschi family for many generations. Recently Lido and Osanna decided to restore and renovate the two houses to create a place of their dreams. With time and a great deal of passion they have managed to breathe life back into this ancient place , which historically was always bustling with life. They have paid great attention to the materials they have used for the restoration, using local stone and wood for all the fixtures and fittings.

The Fiume Tevere (Tiber river) starts here, in the Tiber valley, locally known as VALTIBERINO”, a
place full of memories of battles and meetings of Saints and Heroes.

The valley is dominated by the mountain of “La Verna”, the sacred ground of San Francesco
who stopped to pray there to feel closer to God. This mountain was so important to Michelangelo
Buonarroti that he posed on the background of the painting “Tondo Doni“ so as to remind
