Porto Cervo (Poltu Celvu in Gallurese, Portu Chervu in Sardinian) is a fraction of the municipality of Arzachena, in the province of Olbia-Tempio in north-eastern Sardinia, a historical-geographical region known as Gallura.
It is the main center of the Costa Smeralda and has a resident population of less than 200 inhabitants.
Renowned holiday resort, it is built around the deep natural harbour, whose shape resembles that of a deer and dominates the promontories over the sea, the curve of the harbor and the scattered villas, surrounded by greenery.
The center is built on a mezzanine floor with respect to the port, with its famous square, shops, boutiques, while all around the restaurants, hotels, night clubs and villas climb up to the surrounding hills.
The Old Port dates back to the sixties, when Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, fascinated by the beauty of this stretch of coast, decided to buy the very poor lands of this corner of Gallura and together with the greatest architects of the time, including stands out Luigi Vietti, to give life to the paradise of international elite tourism that we know today.
In 1967 the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda was founded.
In the eighties work began on the construction of the new port, much more capacious and equipped.
