Immersed in the greenery of the enchanting Tuscan countryside, stands the San Donnino company, located in the municipality of Certaldo (birthplace of Boccaccio), in the “S. Donnino”, “Poggio Ai Berti” district
• The geographical position of the company means that it is located a few kilometers from small and characteristic centers of Tuscany, such as Poggibonsi, Certaldo and San Gimignano, an enchanting medieval citadel with “one hundred towers” . A few kilometers and Siena is upon us, with its festive districts, with the Torre del Mangia, and Piazza del Campo which evokes the noise and celebration of the Palio, in contrast with the religiosity of the Duomo and the splendid Basilica of S. Domenico, where Caterina wore the dress of the Mantellate; without forgetting Florence, whose beauties everyone knows and which can be admired by reaching it with a drive of about half an hour.
• The San Donnino company extends over an area of approximately 45 hectares exposed to the south, and developed in much of it on hilly, friable clay soil. Of the total 45 hectares:
• approximately 20 are intended for cereal cultivation, with a rotation system (wheat and broad beans, barley and oats);
• 2 hectares are intended for olive growing, with approximately 450 old and young plants;
• approximately 18 hectares are reserved for winemaking, “Chianti DOCG” with vines planted mostly in the last ten years and cultivated in terraces and rows, the latter supported by newly installed wooden poles;
• approximately 4 hectares have been allocated to the production of valuable wood as alder, walnut and cherry trees have been planted there for over 20 years.
The vineyard, which is located in the Chianti DOCG area (Colli Fiorentini), has been the subject of statistical studies from which data have emerged that can establish that, in normal years, the product of each hectare of vineyard is around 80 hectoliters of wine, a normal production for vineyards located in the Chianti areas.
