Gera Lario, whose name probably derives from the Greek word "leréus", priest, to indicate the presence of a place of worship, it was founded in Roman times near ancient Olonio, as demonstrated by some archaeological findings. Subsequently it followed the vicissitudes of the Republic of the Three Parishes and was used as a point of support by the Spanish troops during the fight against the Grisons in Valtellina until it achieved administrative autonomy in 1620. Of particular interest are the churches of San Vincenzo, built between the 11th and 12th centuries on the remains of a Roman villa and rebuilt in the 15th century and the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, built in 1634 on the central square of the town and renovated following the dramatic flood of 1951. Other signs of the religiosity of the territory are the small Votive Aedicules scattered along the streets of Gera and the sacred frescoes of the 16th and 17th centuries on the facades of the oldest houses. At the entrance to the marina there is the votive lighthouse erected in 1957 in memory of the flood of 1951 which it caused seventeen victims and the devastation of the entire country.
