Botrugno is located on a plateau between the Serre Salentine of Supersano and those of Poggiardo. Its name could derive from the Greek verb Botruomai which means 'to produce grapes'. Originally founded by the Greeks, Botrugno began to develop after the destruction of the nearby Muro Leccese by William the Evil in the 12th century. Among the beauties of Botrugno it is possible to visit the marquis palace, built in 1500 by will of the Castriota family, with a rectangular plan and can be admired for a majestic balcony which occupies almost the entire façade. Nearby stands the Church of the Madonna of Constantinople, currently known as the Church of S.
