The history of the Pietralata district, in the north-eastern area of the capital, has its roots in the distant past of Rome: among ancient Romans, artists who have described it in their works and significant moments in history, the quadrant lives again today after being chosen to house the new Roma stadium.
Pietralata is a neighborhood waiting to be discovered, whose history is lost in a past that often people tend to underestimate. Born as a large estate in the Roman countryside, whose name - Prata Lata - is already recorded in the most ancient documents, it was one of the most important stages of the Roman Resistance during the period of Fascism: there, in fact, at the Ponte Mammolo, nine partisans of the Communist Movement of Italy-Red Flag were massacred by the SS. Over time the neighborhood - with its cinema, the parish, the market square and the Casa del Popolo - has become the protagonist of many works by leading figures of Italian literature, who with their admirable words have described the hardship and the strong illiteracy that characterized the area in the 1970s. Alberto Moravia, Elsa Morante and Pier Paolo Pasolini are just some of the names who have made the neighborhood the setting for their stories. To date, the quadrant is preparing to host the construction of Roma's new stadium. Here is everything there is to discover and do in Pietralata.
Casal de' Pazzi Museum
A visit to this museum, lasting one hour, allows visitors to take a dive into the most distant past. Crossing a footbridge, you can observe from above the rocks that once formed the bottom of an ancient river. Added to these are numerous archaeological and paleontological finds - such as ancient elephant tusks and chipped flints - found during excavations in the area. The route is supported by virtual reconstructions and narratives that allow us to better understand the Pleistocene period.
Filippo Meda Park
Excellent for combating the high summer temperatures, the park is frequented by families and athletes who can thus train with routes and equipment . Here, children can meet and play in peace, while parents relax and have a chat.
