Algua is an Italian municipality of 654 inhabitants[2] in the province of Bergamo in Lombardy. Located in Val Serina, a lateral side of Val Brembana, it is about 24 kilometers north of the Orobic capital. The municipality is part of the mountain community of the Brembana Valley.
The municipality includes four hamlets: Pagliaro, Sambusita, Rigosa and Frerola. The capital, Algua, is a modest-sized town, including the town hall and about ten houses. Since 11 March 1948 following the reconstitution of the municipality of Costa Serina, Algua no longer has territorial continuity because it is divided into two distinct parts by the municipality of Costa Serina and at the closest point the two parts are distant, as the crow flies, over 1,600 meters.
In the municipal territory there are numerous buildings that deserve to be mentioned: firstly the Rigosa tower, from the medieval era, of which however only a few ruins remain.
In the Pagliaro hamlet, however, some remains of settlements of Roman origin.
There are numerous sacred buildings located throughout the territory: firstly the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Perello, located near the border with Selvino, where according to tradition an apparition of the Madonna occurred to a farmer, which took place in 1413.
Another church to remember is that of "Corpus Domini", located in the hamlet of Pagliaro. The original church, of which the presbytery with its ancient frescoes remains, dates back to the beginning of the fifteenth century. The most significant modification to the church building dates back to 1494, when it was enlarged and the axis of the building was rotated 180 degrees.
Other churches that deserve mention are those dedicated to San Giovanni, Frerola and Sant'Antonio Abate, in Rigosa, the church of San Pietro Apostolo in Sambusita.
