Zogno is an Italian town of 8.930 inhabitants in the province of Bergamo in Lombardy. The municipality is located in the lower Brembana Valley on a slope between the eastern slope of Mount Zuccoa bend in the Brembo river about 11 kilometers north-west of the orobic capital. The municipality is part of the Mountain Community of the Brembana Valley.
It is about 18 kilometers Bergamoabout 70 kilometers Milan.
Located in the lower part of the Valle Brembana not far San Pellegrino Terme (4 km). The capital stretches along the valley road, on the right bank of the river Brembo, while the other inhabited centers are mainly located on the left bank.
Amongst the hamlets, stands out Stabello, a village of about 450 inhabitants located south-east of Zogno on the left side of the valley at about 380 m asl: the etymology dates back to Roman times when the legions camped in the area of Lemine led to graze the horses on the plain of the village built stables (stabellum) hence the name Stabello. This small village, initially inhabited by shepherdsfarmers, is the origin of the vernacular poet Pietro Ruggeri, who added to his name the inscription Stabello, in order to remember his origins.
In a small left side valley are Poscante (400 m s.l.m.) and, just above, Grumello de 'Zanchi (410 m altitude), both of considerable size. Also on the left, on a slope, there are Endenna (the largest village at an altitude of 420 m), Somendenna (670 m), Miragolo San Marco (960 m)Miragolo San Salvatore (970 m). Proceeding Zogno to San Pellegrino Terme, you come to Ambria, a rather large hamlet situated at the entrance to the Val Serina. Above Ambria, on the left side, there is Spino al Brembo (470 m s.l.m.).
