The city of Cherasco is located 288 meters above sea level, on the river terrace formed by the Stura di Demonte and the Tanaro, has 8,422 inhabitants.
She was born on 12 November 1243 by will of the Municipality of Alba and of the vicar of Frederick II, Manfredi Lancia; It still retains the “castrum romanum” structure: a square plan with streets that intersect in a parallel and perpendicular manner. It has wide streets, porticoes and many civil and religious buildings from the medieval and baroque ages. Cherasco belonged to the Angevins, then to the Viscontis and at the mercy of the Spanish and French in the first half of the 16th century, until it finally passed to the Savoys (1559). In 1630 the war broke out and this time it was joined by the plague which spread throughout Piedmont; Cherasco, immune from the contagion, hosted the court with its entire entourage. The following year, the plenipotentiaries of Austria, France, Spain, Mantua and Monferrato, Cardinal Mazarin and King Vittorio Amedeo I stayed in Cherasco and signed the peace that put an end to the war for the succession of Mantua and Monferrato. In 1706 the court, having retreated from Turin besieged by the French, stayed again in Cherasco. In 1796 the armistice was signed between Vittorio Amedeo III and France which meant the definitive defeat of the Savoy State and the handing over of Cherasco to Napoleon. An illustrious and important history, which has made it a protagonist for centuries.--f7f93e68c7765f36f35c7919fc491834!
