LOCATION
Torresina (Torzela in Piedmont dialect) is an Italian municipality of 47 inhabitants in the province of Cuneo in Piedmont.

It is located on the top of a hill, at an altitude of 704 m. “Torresina”, adopted in 1892, derives from the original Torricella, a name linked to the presence of the medieval tower near the town.

The area of Torresina was inhabited in pre-Roman times by the Stazielli, followed by other populations ascribed to the Publilia tribe . The presence of Rome in these lands is also confirmed by the discovery in 1999 of a stele dating back to around the 1st century.

Around 950, during the period of the Saracen incursions, the tower around which the town developed was built, and which will give its name.

On 31 March 1391 the territory of Torresina was invested by Galeazzo Visconti, lord of Asti and Milan, to Cristoforo and Giacomo, sons of Guglielmo II of Ceva. From then on, the town remained with the Ceva family until 1635, the year in which it was invested by the Del Carretto family, with the unusual peculiarity of both male and female inheritance. In 1684, by bequest, the fiefdom passed to the baron of Nus : Giovanni Francesco Renato.

On 16 April 1797 Torresina was the scene of clashes between the Napoleonic troops who were attempting to take the Pedaggera hill and the Piedmontese defenders. The French, afflicted by serious supply problems, occupied the town and subjected it to requisitions and war taxes.

Torricella became a municipality in 1829, and then changed its name to its current one in 1892.
