The history of the town of Soldano can be traced in the writings of a contemporary, Fausto Amalberti, who in 1984 published an article entitled Historical news on the town of Soldano, the result of extensive consultation of existing documents in the Archives of State of Genoa. The origin of the town is not known; among the hypotheses formulated, the most recurrent one is that the settlement was formed by the Municipality of Ventimiglia with prisoners taken from the war events of Almeria (1147) and Tortosa (1148): the toponym Soldano would have been chosen by the founders to honor their king (sultan).
