Montesacro, known by the Romans by the name of Talenti, is a neighborhood belonging to the IV Municipality of the metropolitan city of Rome. It has a territorial extension of approximately 150 hectares and with its 50,000 inhabitants Talenti is the protagonist of a very interesting story about the birth of the Capitoline district.
History of the Talenti district
The Talenti district owes its name to the story of a family who lived in Rome between the first and second half of the 20th century. Piercarlo and Achille Talenti, before the start of the First World War, were two second-hand dealers and were responsible for recovering the material found inside the cellars, warehouses and other activities related to the disposal and reuse of waste. Until the 1950s the area was used for grazing livestock.
The Talenti brothers
Immediately after the First World War the city got to work to restart the urban garbage service. Being short of staff, the Talenti Brothers put forward a proposal with their company, SIRA, obtaining the management of waste disposal. This continued until the neighborhood was able to reactivate the service.
Once the work was completed, the problem of payment to the two brothers arose. Piercarlo and Achille Talenti chose, by mutual agreement with the city, to renounce the liquidation of the payment in exchange for the concession to build what is today the initial part of the Talenti district. Thanks to these concessions, the Talenti brothers gave life to the first two shopping centers. These businesses currently exist and are located in Via Renato Fucini and Via Luigi Verga.
The following years
The commercial expansion of the Talenti district began, with the creation of shopping streets, thanks to the presence of shops and commercial activities.
SIRA, led by the Talenti brothers, also managed the bus connections to Montesacro, thanks to the presence of two lines (A and B). The transport service remained active until 1965. In the following years there was a great development of the Talenti District, thanks to the construction of other shopping centers and the Dear in Via Ettore Romagnoli, where the headquarters of important studios are located RAI television channels.
Parco Talenti is an equipped green area present in the Municipality III of Rome, making it an area dedicated to lovers of greenery and children.
The works for the redevelopment of the first part of the park, approximately 25 hectares , lasted almost 20 years, due to the various tests and projects that saw the Municipality of Rome and the construction companies intensely involved.
Church of Sant'Achille, Rome
The church was built to a design by the architect Giorgio Guidi and consecrated in 1973 by Cardinal Ugo Poletti. The church is made of red bricks and has a cylindrical bell tower, which embellishes its structure.
Church of San Ponziano, Rome
The church was built in 1963 and is one of the symbols of modern churches in Rome. Externally we find a spire that gives an upward thrust to the entire structure, resembling the union of two hands clasped in prayer.
The interior has a rectangular plan with a single nave.
Observing the art inside the church , we can find the Via Crucis in terracotta relief by Agatina Perrotta. In the presbytery there is a wall enriched by a graffiti by the priest Ugolino da Belluno, created in 1964. This graffiti represents Christ risen and blessing.
