The Casa delle Colonne, initially Casa Ponzio Vaglia, Aghemo e Ferrogio, is a prestigious historic building located on the corner between Corso Matteotti and Corso Re Umberto in Turin
It is one of the most significant residential architectures, both from the conceptual and technical-constructive, of the work of the architect Alessandro Antonelli, the author of the Mole.
The scheme, which we also recognize in the Ponzio Vaglia house, included five floors, large loggias on the ground floor, the mezzanine floor above them, further four floors and, peeking out, numerous dormer windows which served to give light to the attic rooms. The construction technique is based on a structural system made up of thin brick fulcrums, connected by curtained arches and mushroom vaults and characterized by a symmetrical arrangement and regularity of the parts.
The 160 columns on the façade are the peculiar and recurring element of the building. At each window, balcony or loggia there are two Doric columns which ennoble its appearance, introducing, as for the façade of the Mole Antonelliana, superimposed classical orders, a peculiar element of the eclectic Antonelliana architecture, of absolute modernity, which used elements classics in a non-canonical composition.
The proposed three-room apartment is on two levels, completely renovated in 2019, entrance to the living area with kitchen, large dining area, bedroom, bathroom and internal staircase that leads to the mezzanine with living room.
