Tourist resort in Salento located on the Ionian coast of the Salento peninsula, it is home to the Porto Cesareo protected marine natural area and the Palude del Conte and Duna Costiera oriented regional nature reserve. The municipal territory, located in the north-western part of the Salento plain, extends over an area of 34.66 km² and borders to the north with the Taranto municipalities of Manduria and Avetrana, to the east and south with the municipality of Nardò, to the west with the Ionian Sea.
