The residential history of Dormelletto seems to date back to the Iron Age as evidenced by some historical artefacts and findings. In fact, around 1987 around fifty tombs were found together with numerous other objects (ceramic vases, spearheads, peasant sickles, bronze anklets and bracelets) which belonged to the Gallic population and which date back to the period between the end of the 3rd and the beginning of the 1st century BC. In 2006, following some excavations for the reconstruction of the elementary school, dozens of new tombs were found, suggesting the presence of an enormous Gallic necropolis. From Dormelletto, in Roman times, passed the Via Severiana Augusta, a Roman consular road that connected Mediolanum (modern Milan) with the Verbannus Lacus (Lake Verbano, or Lake Maggiore, and from here to the Sempione pass (lat. Summo Plano ).
