The project is characterised by the redevelopment and restoration of the entire building, built in the 17th century for this noble family of Neapolitan origin, to which Cardinal Antonio, who later became Pope Innocent XII (1691-1700), belonged. The building was completely transformed in 1880, at the time of the opening of the street, by architect Zampi. It has only partly preserved the original interior design, such as the staircase and the throne room, where Cardinal Antonio used to give audiences; in the atrium, after the austere portal, there is a bronze bust of Pope Innocent XII. Leopold II, Grand Duke of Tuscany, who was exiled to Rome and died here in January 1870, resided in the palace. Today, the original layout of the condominium spaces, such as the entrance staircase and the main floor, with its 17th-century finish, has remained virtually unchanged. There are also frescoes decorating most of the rooms and the coffered ceiling. In addition to the main body of Palazzo Pignatelli, there is the adjacent body with the entrance on Via Tre Cannelle, with several important residential units for sale. Set in a historical context but with a contemporary character, one gets lost in admiring all that bears witness to the art and grandeur of the greatest empire of all time.
