Brief historical notes:
Serina is a town of 2,000 inhabitants of the province of Bergamo located in the valley of the same name, located on the eastern side of the Brembana Valley and is a holiday destination as it presents nature itineraries that allow excursions in the area with paths also suitable for expert mountaineers.
The origins of the town they seem to date back to the times of Roman domination, a period in which the first residential settlements date back, also thanks to the discovery of iron mines which allowed the development of workshops suitable for processing the extracted material.
In the 15th century when the arrival of the Venetian domination led Serina to be the capital of the Upper Brembana Valley.
At an architectural level, Serina has numerous buildings dating back to the 14th century where the town was the birthplace, in 1480, of the painter Jacopo Negretti, better known as Palma il Vecchio and preserves the works of important value by the painters Jacopo Palma the Elder, Jacopo Palma the Younger and other artists.
In the area there are several sanctuaries and monasteries to visit dating back to the 14th, 15th and 17th centuries, such as the monastery of the Santissima Trinità, built during the 17th century, which house works by Palma il Giovane.
In the neighboring hamlet of Valpiana with the municipality of Oltre il Colle, the Ristoro is visible, an ancient place, located on the side of the road, thanks to which travelers found refuge and rest. Some frescoes can still be seen inside.
