The origin of the Tuscolano territory, which from a landscape, historical and social point of view is currently completely contiguous with that of Appio-Latino, it does not date back beyond the medieval age if we refer to the street that gives it its name: the via Tuscolana, precisely. This road, designed to connect Rome with Tusculum, does not appear to have a classical origin due to the absence of archaeological and historical documentation connected to it which dates back to this period. The first mention of the Via Tuscolana is in a bull of Pope Honorius III in 1217. Nor does the imperial mausoleum known as "Monte del Grano" (150-250 AD), attributable to the nearby Roman villa Ad, seem to have anything to do with this road axis Duas Lauros, which was accessed from Via Labicana (now Casilina), nor the Colombari of Via Pescara, closer to Rome, probably aligned on some diverticulum of the Labicana.
