The location is also fortunate, as it is just a few kilometers from Arona, the well-known tourist center of Lake Maggiore; in recent years it has seen its population grow considerably due to its fortunate position and the welcoming nature of the villagers. It was probably founded by the Celts, then conquered by the Romans and finally populated by the Lombards, who left it with its ancient name Olegio qui codicitur Longobardorum .
The dignity of a municipality dates back to the mists of time, except for a period between 1928 and 1947 in which it was merged with the municipalities of Paruzzaro and Montrigiasco, with the capital in Paruzzaro. At the time of the split in 1947, Montrigiasco remained a hamlet, and remained under Paruzzaro until 1960, the year in which it became a hamlet of Arona. The town bases its local economy on some small factories in the surrounding area, mainly in the municipality of nearby Paruzzaro.
