Lusuolo is a walled village dating back to the early Middle Ages located in the municipality of Mulazzo in the province of Massa and Carrara. The complex is known for its strategic position as it stands on a hill overlooking an ancient ford of the Magra river and in ancient times it allowed control of the valley floor and the Via Francigena. It was precisely because of this excellent position that the castle and its fortified village had a turbulent life between internal disorders and continuous attacks by the powers that competed for power in Lunigiana.
