A bit of history of the "PALAZZO CASA ROSSA"
In Sestri Levante, in Viale Rimembranza, more commonly known as Viale delle Palme at civ.37, an ancient building consisting of two parts stands out: one red and gray four-storey neo-Gothic turret joined, to the east of the observer, to a white rectangular body.
The watchtower which forms the corner with Vico Marina di Ponente, was included in the city walls in the 13th century and housed the sentries stationed which alerted the inhabitants of the village to any dangers coming from the sea. The presence and use of similar artefacts are very frequent in coastal villages, not only in Liguria. On the ground floor, extending towards the promontory of the island, there was a large room with a low, vaulted ceiling in Romantic style, now transformed in a restaurant which, presumably, had a dual function: storage of boats and baggage trains, or guard room. Until the 1970s, when the port dam had not yet been built, the sea, on days of strong south-westerly weather, entered the tower's atrium, played with the corroded slate steps, slapped the high black, faded plinth , slightly inclined, which covers the external base of the complex.
