Building for Sale

In the historic center of Parabita, about 10 km from the sea of ??Gallipoli, is located the castle built in the late Middle Ages, object in time of restructuring, leaving little of the original era Angevin. In the early 1500s the feudatory of Parabita, Francesco del Balzo, Count of Ugento hosted the French troops of Francis I, fought the Spaniards of Emperor Charles V settled in Gallipoli. In 1528 Pirro Castrista defeated the French and conquered the fief of Parabita. In 1540 1545 the architect Evangelista Menga commissioned the same Pirro, began to modify the structure of the castle, re-proposing it with features close to the residence that has fortified ramparts, contributing to its reinforcement by replacing old circular towers with the new bastions, so-called modern with a lanceolate plan. The current configuration is due to the architects Adolfo Avena of Naples and Napoleone Pagliarulo di Parabita who in 1911 on commission of the then owner, have definitively modified majestic manor, making it more suitable for residential use. In fact, special attention was given to the living and representation areas, which marked the definitive sunset of the old Angevin manor.
The arches, sensibly present and the various elevations, are in the most part round. The numerous rooms present different types of vaults: many barrel vaults on the lower floors, once in the arms room, a pavilion in the bedroom, a dome on spherical plumes of the chapel dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi, in which many relics have been kept including the body of St. Vincent the martyr, which in 1855 at the behest of the last Duchess of Parabita
