Paolo Orsi was the first to explore the place by discovering the prehistoric necropolis consisting of numerous artificial cave tombs related to the culture of Thapsos.
On the area there are remains from the Greek era, including numerous ashlars that are part of one or more important buildings perhaps referable to a small temple dedicated to the nearby Ciane spring as historians testify.
Also interesting are the three double mills located in three different areas of the cohort whose age cannot be assessed.
