The city of Cherasco, is located 288 meters above sea level, on the river terrace formed by the Stura di Demonte and the Tanaro, has 8,422 inhabitants.
She was born on 12 November 1243 by the will of the Municipality of Alba and the vicar of Frederick II, Manfredi Lancia; it still retains the “castrum romanum” structure: a square plan with streets that intersect in a parallel and perpendicular way. It has wide streets, arcades and many civil and religious buildings from the Middle Ages and Baroque.
Cherasco was owned by the Angevins, then by the Visconti and at the mercy of the Spanish and French in the first half of the 16th century, until it finally passed to the Savoy family (1559). In 1706 the court, having withdrawn from Turin besieged by the French, stayed again in Cherasco. In 1796 an armistice was signed between Vittorio Amedeo III and France which meant the definitive defeat of the Savoy State and the handing over of Cherasco to Napoleon.
