Ref: CG6261 - The site falls within the vast territorial area identified by the PAI between Capo Peloro and Fiumedinisi which is located in the extreme north-eastern portion of Sicily and extends for approximately 174.50 square kilometres, falling within the mountainous system of the Peloritani, along which the watershed develops between the Tyrrhenian side and that pertaining to the Ionian Sea. This mountain system, made up of covering strata in which crystalline soils prevail, stands out in the regional orographic panorama as the landscape is characterized by a very harsh morphology. Generally speaking, three altimetric bands can be delineated roughly oriented EW of which one is flat, a second hilly and a third decidedly mountainous. The first band is located at altitudes of a few meters above sea level and with very variable width along the development of the coasts. At the outlets of the numerous watercourses, large plains with a gentle slope towards the sea are generally observed, due to the over-flooded riverbeds which gradually fade towards the coast. The strip located at the highest altitudes is characterized by a harsh and uneven morphology.
