The town of Carisolo is in a sunny position, sheltered from the winds, at the entrance to the Val di Genova and Val di Campiglio, at the foot of Cima Lancia (2,317 m). The town is very characteristic. You can admire the granite fountains and sacred wall paintings. Carisolo was repeatedly devastated by fires, landslides and floods from the Sarca river. The fire, which broke out at 5 in the morning on 5 August 1790, destroyed the town in just an hour, causing 6 victims. In 1857 it was remembered that it was the rush of the inhabitants of Pinzolo that saved a large part of the town from a fire[5]. Another memorable fire was that of 19 August 1873, caused by lightning: only three houses in the town were saved from the fire and not even the church and the bell tower were spared[6]. Since 1915, being bordered by Val Genova, it lived through the hard years of the First World War as a protagonist until November 2, 1918, the day on which the Alpine troops entered the town. The story of those years is the heart of the novel The Pen of the White Crow.

Church of San Nicolò, parish church.
Church of Santo Stefano. One of the most important historical monuments found in Carisolo is the church of Santo Stefano, located just above the town, at an altitude of 862 m. The church stands on a rock spur at the entrance to Val Genova, an Alpine valley approximately 20 km long. From the top of the rock next to the church, where the three crosses of a symbolic Golgotha ​​currently stand, you can see the entire wonderful landscape of the upper Val Rendena. Even if the church has its own architectural and historical value, it is the paintings of Simone II Baschenis that give Santo Stefano its particular artistic value and that generally interest the visitor the most.
Hermitage of San Martino, is located at the entrance to Val Genova, on the southern slopes of Monte Lancia, at 1226 meters above sea level.
