The Municipality of Monterosso Grana is located in the heart of Valle Grana (Cuneo), has an area of 42 sq km and a population of 533 inhabitants. The territory is very heterogeneous and extends over an area that goes from an altitude of 700 meters in the lower part to over 2000 of the Pervou, Grum and Bram mountains, on the watershed that marks the border with the Stura Valley. Monterosso, the capital, is located in the semi-flat area, crossed by the Grana stream, which extends from the bridge near the chapel of Santa Maria to the Levata hamlet. On the slopes of the valley, between 700 and 900 metres, there are chestnut woods which for many centuries represented an essential resource for the population. Further up are the pastures which, in the summer months, host the herds that supply the precious milk for the production of Castelmagno cheese. The territory is characterized by the presence of numerous small valleys, rich in villages and hamlets. At the Levata hamlet, take the Valverde with the villages of San Pietro and Saretto. Two valleys branch off from this settlement: on one side the Coumboscuro whose main center is Santa Lucia, on the other the valley where the village of Frise is located. Next to the main centers there are numerous villages, once very populated, harmoniously inserted in the landscape and characterized by their architecture. The artistic heritage is rich and of particular interest, the ancient castle, the little church of Madonna della Neve and the parish churches of San Giacomo, San Pietro, San Giovanni and Santa Lucia stand out. The municipality, due to its environment, has a natural tourist vocation, has modern accommodation, recreational and sports facilities that allow you to practice numerous disciplines, such as football, tennis and the game of bowls. A dense and well-kept network of paths favors excursions through the woods and pastures, up to high altitudes. For fishing enthusiasts, the Grana torrent, with its brown trout, represents an ideal environment. The local language and culture, belonging to the doc family, are valued in Saint Lucia by the Coumboscuro cultural association and its museum, in San Pietro by the Cevitou association. There are numerous craft activities and, among the typical products, the Castelmagno cheese stands out.
