VALBONDIONE

Its origins probably date back to the Roman period: it is believed that the locality of Maslana, which was the oldest nucleus, devoured by a fire at the end of the seventies, it would have been used as a resting place for the slaves employed by the Romans for the exploitation of the iron deposits present in the area. The mining activity was the main source of income for the inhabitants also in the following centuries. The toponym clearly reflects the location of the village in the valley crossed by the Bondione stream, whose name could derive from the Lombard word "bonda", meaning 'bowl'. Its history, in which there are no particularly significant events, followed that of the surrounding territories, subjected to Venetian domination until the end of the eighteenth century and then passed under Austrian rule. Among the historical-architectural testimonies there are: the seventeenth-century parish church of Biondone, with valuable pictorial works; the church of Lizzola, also from the 17th century, and the parish church of Fiumenero, from the 18th century, with the nearby church of San Rocco.
