The fame of the Grand Hotel Carezza crossed European borders. The Grand Hotel Carezza was then expanded in 1907 and reached 500 beds. The dolomite and porphyry construction develops into rows of regular wooden windows and balconies. In front of the building there were large terraces and an open space structured as a garden. Inside, the hall with the coffered ceiling and columns, the former restaurant with the beamed ceiling, the fresco dated 1922 by Albert Stolz depicting the legend of King Laurin (in the current indoor swimming pool), the Habsburg salon (ballroom) with period chandeliers and the large oil painting depicting the Ortler by the famous British landscape painter Edward Theodore Compton.
The Grand Hotel in Carezza is one of the most important Alpine hotels of the Belle Epoque and is it is preserved, in its characteristic external image and in the central fixed furniture, even in the new use with holiday apartments. August 3, 1949 was in fact a memorable day as the British Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill stayed with his wife and his entourage and, thanks to the beautiful weather and the inspiring panorama, was able to dedicate himself to his favorite occupation: painting.
