Serina is an Italian town of 2,195 inhabitants in the province of Bergamo, in Lombardy. Located in the valley of the same name, lateral of the Brembana valley, it is about 30 kilometers north from the orobic capital.
History
The origins of the village seem to date back to the 1st century BC when Roman domination, when the whole Serina valley was gathered under the town hall of Bergamo. The first settlements date back to this period, created thanks to the discovery of iron mines in the area near the border with Dossena.

The toponym also dates back to Roman times, and seems to be connected to that of the Serio river, located in the valley Seriana. This indicates a flow or current, attributable to the torrent, the namesake of the town, which crosses the upper part of the valley. However the first written documents that attest to the existence of the village date back only to the eleventh century, a period in which Serina began to carve out an important space within the trades. In fact, from this basin the Via Mercatorum passed through, the ancient trafficked road that connected the Val Seriana with the high Brembana valley, which had the most important village in Serina.

In this regard, some documents dating back to the Italian Risorgimento attest that Serina had almost 1,500 inhabitants, even twice as much as the nearby town of San Pellegrino Terme.
