The Municipality of Algua groups part of the old centers of the Valle Serina Inferiore. The most significant traces of the past can be read especially in the parish churches of Pagliaro and Frerola (on the right bank of the Serina torrent) and of Sambusita and Rigosa, placed on the opposite side from which the Ambriola torrent descends. For artistic merit and for the discreet state of conservation emerge among all the fifteenth-century frescoes of the ancient presbytery of Pagliaro, which in the new orthogonal arrangement of the church is now the chapel of the baptismal front. The sanctuary of Perello recalls the apparition of the Madonna to a local farmer, who persuaded his other villagers to build the sanctuary by exhibiting the blossoming of an olive shoot on a dry beech branch as a miraculous sign of vision. In the recent natural history of Algua we remember the formation of a small lake due to the damming of the Serina stream due to a landslide that in 1896 had also interrupted the road. Over time, the basin was buried into a humid area useful for the repopulation of amphibians.

History
According to recent studies, the etymological origin of the name would seem to derive from water, an element of which the area is very rich, given that in the territory there are countless springs and small streams. Another version concerning the origin of the toponym could be traced back to the existence of a ford on the Serina stream. The ford would then have been abbreviated to Algua.

The origins of the town seem to date back to the first century BC, at the time of Roman domination, when the entire Serina valley was reunited under the town hall of Bergamo. Some remains of the village of Pagliaro remain from this period. However, there are not many documents that attest to events or parts of the history of these places, at least until the Middle Ages. In fact, many trifles date back to this time among the inhabitants of the various neighboring villages, mainly due to parochial issues, nothing to do with the clashes between Guelphs and Ghibellines that took place in other towns in the Bergamo area. And it is precisely this tranquility that has marked the life of the inhabitants of these areas, which have always been linked to the rhythms of nature.

In recent times we must remember a natural event, with disastrous consequences, which occurred in the year 1888. A landslide struck the inhabited center of Truchel, sowing death and destruction. However, this event led to the obstruction of the course of the Serina stream, which formed a small lake, which still exists.
