Except for the brief periods of the French occupations (1798-1799 and 1807-1814), the Spada family kept the property by selling it in 1848 to the Marquis Fabio Cavalletti who in turn sold it to Luigi Passamonti in 1867. Under the management of the Passamonti the paper mills were established in an anonymous company and following an arson, started by a fired worker, the production was modernized so much that in 1868 the plant began producing paper money for the Papal States, at the time led by Pope Pius IX. The paper mill in Grottaferrata was definitively closed only in 1893, with the transfer of all the equipment to the Subiaco plant. The property is located a few hundred meters from the abbey of S.
